March Book Review: Mark Montano's Big Ass Book of Crafts

Whether you’ve just moved into a new place, or just wanna make a quick gift out of the coolest nik-nacks you got lying around, Mark Montano’s Big Ass Book of Crafts series has something for everyone. Both titles contain loads of great creative ideas and techniques, each chapter dedicated to one material (paper) or space to fill with unique decor (your back porch), even a whole section on homemade beauty products.
The layout is stocked with whimsical design, and includes clear instructions and inspiring photos to get your into each project. Almost three years since first getting these (these were actually some of the first craft books that launched my growing collection), I’m still going through it and marking pages stocked with crafty goodies I wanna give a go, like his fabric Bound Books or his Lemon Lip shine.

True, even as a doll collector, I admit that I’ll never see his fascination with using baby doll heads in his work-though I give him total cudos for putting them in the most unusual places (as a light switch etc?!) But it drives me even more to want to look for my own place to live just so I can fill it with the beautiful unique trinkets he creates.

Final Score: 4/5
